New legal requirements.
As of 2011-06-16, there are EU legal requirements for the minimum efficiency for most electric motors manufactured in or imported into the EU. The exception is motors for potentially explosive areas and motors that are integrated into a machine so that you cannot measure the efficiency of the electric motor separately, etc. 2, 4 and 6-pole motors from 0.75 to 375 kW with rated values for continuous operation are covered. Nowadays, the efficiency classes are referred to as IE1, IE2, IE3 and IE4. Higher numbers indicate higher efficiency.
